PRACTICE NURSES
Available for consultation by appointment.
The nurses’ role includes asthma/COPD check-ups, diabetic screening, cervical smears,
childhood immunisations, travel health vaccinations, ear syringing,
dressings, removal of stitches, ECGs, Spirometry, contraceptive advice, pill
checks, well men and well women check-ups and quit smoking clinics.

DISTRICT NURSES
Visit patients who are unable to access services at the surgery or
hospital. They undertake nursing assessments for acute, chronic and
palliative care. District nurses can also access equipment and services to
enable you to live independently at home.

HEALTH VISITORS
The Health Visitors are qualified nurses and midwives with extra
qualifications which enable them to offer the following services to
patients of the practice either in their own home or by appointment
at the surgery.

The Health Visitors:
1. Specialise in monitoring the development of babies and children,
including advice on behaviour problems.
2. Assess the health and social needs of elderly people living at
home.
3. Advise on all aspects of child and adult health.
4. Perform hearing screening test during the newborn period
Child health clinics are held at Princess House in the Square on
Fridays 12noon - 2.00pm.
The Health Visitors are happy to discuss any health matter or family
problem.

COMMUNITY MIDWIFE
Based at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and runs an antenatal
clinic at the surgery on Friday afternoons. She can be contacted
at all other times by phoning 261000 and asking for the
Community Midwives.
